This is overall a good report, but I was surprised to not find any listing of "engineering approaches to human health" (or something similar) under the areas on page 10 which lists areas where RPI can play a major role in thought leadership with the region. After all, we have extensive research collaborations with GE healthcare in the region, Regeneron is a major player as well, you have many healthcare related companies in the area (just look up "catheter valley"), and we have extensive collaborations over many decades with Albany Med. The report should reflect these opportunities as well but as a minimum it should be listed there.

Does the Rensselaer Forward plan have a vision for helping deal with climate change? Do we have a plan to reduce our carbon footprint? Help our regional community adapt to a changing climate? Sustainability?

I'm not sure if this is the correct report to comment this on but I would like to highlight the outreach component to regional engagement. Cynthia Smith has wonderful programs like STEP, that brings 7-12 grade students to RPI. Paul Schoch has annually held the First Robotics competition. SoS Humberto Terrones is often bringing groups of students to campus. The SoE Engineering Ambassadors K-12 STEM outreach program host and support a multitude of outreach programs. They are in new classrooms around the Capital Region weekly reaching hundreds of students. Other student groups including but not limited to the Forge, SHPE, NSBE, Robotics, and SWE visit schools and host campus STEM events to encourage K-12 students to pursue STEM. Our Regional Engagement should also consider the work the students are doing to foster the next generation of STEM students to attend Rensselaer.
