The Rensselaer Idea Bank is now closed. Thank you to all who submitted an idea! Our strategic planning committees have reviewed the submissions and will reflect on these thoughtful ideas and respond as appropriate in their final reports. We hope to release these final committee reports to the Rensselaer community in early September, with a goal to complete the Rensselaer Forward Plan by December 2023.

Expand the limit on the number of accepted AP credits
We used to allow students to transfer in 32 credits. This limit has been reduced to 20 credits a few years ago. Expanding or restoring this limit will make RPI more attractive to students who have earned more than 20 credits.
Restructuring the portfolios
Restructuring the portfolio system at RPI and establishing well-defined and publicly available organizational structure to the institution. I have experienced a lot of issues in the past year since starting at RPI in defining roles and responsibilities as well as facilitating research collaboration among different portfolios. Establishing a new collaborative structure and encouraging communal-effort rather than competition among portfolios and resource would be incredibly beneficial to the university.
Hockey Incubator
We should utilize the President’s box at the field house to serve as an incubator of sorts for RPI students, faculty, and staff. Tickets could be given to interested students, faculty, and staff with a set percentage of each group per game. This would be a great way to use the box for games where it is not otherwise being utilized. The hockey incubator would provide the opportunity for the three groups to meet, mix, and ideate with each other and it would foster and encourage connections with people across campus that might not otherwise cross paths
